Richard Kent is the owner and driving force behind Mickley Stud although
he didn't start there.
His father was a beef
farmer with a passion for breeding thoroughbreds so Richard was given
his first broodmare early in life. On leaving school he worked with
Robert Percival but then moved to Liam Cashman’s Glenview Stud where he
managed the jumping stallion base. After 8 years with Liam he broadened
his experience by working in studs in Western Australia.
Returning to
England he was a partner in Helshaw Grange stud for 14 years before
branching out on his own when Mickley Stud was fully built in 2006.
Richard has bred
four Group 1 winners & purchased the Irish Guineas winner Saoire as a
foal for £4,000 reselling her as a yearling for 65,000 euros. He also
bred the 2006 Irish 1000 Guineas runner up Ardbrea Lady plus other black
type horses sired by Overbury including Over Siberia, Overbury Affair &
Publican. |
